CURRICULUM

Lucia Giuliano is an architect based between Barcelona and Catania. After her graduation in Architecture at the University of Palermo, she obtained a master degree in History, Architecture Art and City from the Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya in Barcelona and she is now preparing, at the Department of Projectos of the same University, her Phd Thesis in the research line New Instruments for architecture.

She has collaborated from 2000 to 2010 with the Arata Isozaki y Asociados office in Barcelona, directly involved in some of the projects that the Japanese architect has built in Spain: Public Housing at Carabanchel, Madrid; Thermal Resort at Arties, Vall d’Aran; Distrito 38 Office complex in Barcelona, in collaboration with Foreign Architects, London (master plan and building design); Hotel Puerta America 10th floor Interior Design; Illa de Blanes, Spain, a multifunctional building with Science Museum, hotels and retail (concept and design development).

She is curating with the photographer Laura Cantarella Topografia del Trauma, a research project that uses photography as a tool for reading and interpretation of places, seen through the filter of traumatic events that maim the territory. In 2009 the research has evolved into an investigation platform about the Valle del Belice (Sicily), with the goal of representing and interpreting the dynamics shaping the region after the 1968 earthquake. The research compiled during the 2009 edition (photographic, cartographic, narrative, video and audio), revealed the territorial complexity of the valley and the opportunities for its representation.  The second edition workshop (30th of August – 5th September 2010) proposes an Atlas of Informal Geographies in the Valle del Belice, an updated cross reading of the places and situations traced during both workshops.  (http://www.ttworkshop.wordpress.com/)

She is director of Abadir, an Academy of Fine Arts based in Catania.
