CURRICULUM
Marita Isobel Solberg, born 1977, Tromsø, Norway, is a young and emerging performance, musician and installation artist that also works with clay and ceramic as material. She is now living and working as a full time artist in the city of Tromsø, Northern of Norway. This year she got a 2-year working grant for young artists from the sami parliament (2010-2012).
Marita got her Master degree at the Oslo National Academy Of the Arts in 2007 and has after that participated in residenceies in both Japan (2007) and America (2008) and she has traveled around the world with her performance project: Let’s Dot The World!. In 2007 she was staying at SCCP (Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park) from july to late october, here she was meeting and working side by side with various artist from around the world, amongst them Sandro Lorenzini (Italy) and Yoshitomo Nara (Japan).
In 2008 she was one of the partisipants in the summerprogram at the Watermill Center in New York, here she started working with the Taiwanese performance group “The Shakespeares Wild Sisters” on a piece called ”Plastic Holes” that was shown at the Bridge in Southampton August 2008, The Watermill Benefit 2008 , later she also worked with them at the theater festival in Avignon, France in 2009.
She is currently working with the group (Director: Yenling Hsu) on a performance piece from the book Lol Valerie Stein by Marguerite Duras with premiere in Taipei/Taiwan.
Other projects and groups:
A Landart project called ” Gallery Fjærstein” wich means something like ”Stones at the beach”, could also meen ”Featherstone”. A photo/installation and performancegroup “The Legendary Antler Sisters” with Ida Walenius, a dance/performance project “One who is breathing” with the finnish dancer Miiamaija Mantyla, working on a performance and dance piece with the japanese dancer Yuki Kawahisa, New York.
Marita is a singer and composer in a performance/music project called “Mara & The Inner Strangeness”, based in Tromsø, the group will release their first EP in October 2010.
She is constantly working on her own performance projects and is participating in exhibitions around Norway.
In June 2010 she travel to Tokyo, Japan to present her own art, residency programs in sapmi and sami art/culture for AIR-Japan at the Norwegian Ebassy in Tokyo. She is also doing a Performance and presentation for the Japan Foundation.
Since 2008 Marita has been working partly as a Tutor/Artist in ARTSCHOOL and DKS (Artists visiting children Schools) in Troms County. She has also been working for Tromsø International Film Festival (TIFF) 2008-2010.
Marita is also working on two commision works in Norway.
She is a member of Norwegian Association of Arts and Craft (deputy in the Board) and The Sami Artists Union (Now in The Artist Counsil).
She has earlier got support from The Japan-Norwegian Sasakawa Foundation, FFUK (Fond for executive artists), UD (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and The Royal Norwegian Embassy-Tokyo.
